In an effort to provide a safe working environment for volunteers, staff, and partners, Hope’s Harvest RI is taking extra precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to social distancing requirements, we may limit trips to less volunteers than usual to help with social distancing in small spaces. We realize that procedures may be different and take more time than past gleaning trips and thank you for your patience and attentiveness. Shifts or opportunities may be offered/ canceled on short notice due to public health updates. By signing up to attend a gleaning trip as a volunteer with Hope’s Harvest RI, you agree to comply with the following protocols.

  • For the 2020 season, we are limiting volunteers to people 18 years of age or older. I agree that I am 18 years of age or older.
  • I will not attend a gleaning trip and will notify HHRI if I exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 (sore throat, running nose, cough, difficulty breathing, confusion, loss of taste/smell, or fever,) if i have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or if I have been in contact with a household member exhibiting symptoms or diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • If I experience any of the above symptoms while in attendance on a gleaning trip, I will immediately notify the Staff Trip Leader on duty, and I will accept all directions from Staff to mitigate any safety risks.
  • I will not attend a gleaning trip if in the 14 days prior to the trip I:
    • traveled to any state or city with a current stay-at-home order in place.
    • traveled to any foreign country
    • went on a cruise ship
    • was around anyone who has COVID-19
  • Before the gleaning trip I will:
    • take my temperature to ensure I do not have a fever (100.4 degree F or higher.) HHRI staff will have a thermometer on-site if volunteers do not have their own. (VGC).
  • Acquire a clean personal mask (Here are some ideas if you need to make your own.) If weather conditions preclude use of a cloth face mask, you will be provided with a clean face shield.
    • Practice universal infection control precautions  and avoid touching my eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • While on gleaning trips I will:
    • Wear my mask/face shield 100% of the time and will return to my car for any reason that requires me to remove/change my mask/shield.
    • Observe 6-foot social distancing during all phases of the trip and follow specified work flows that help to enforce the 6-feet.
    • wash my hands before and after gleaning trips, and after eating, drinking, going to the restroom, or touching my face, to the CDC standard.
    • Clean and sanitize all of my clothing (and gloves if you want them) before the trip.
  • I understand that Hope’s Harvest RI and its staff members reserve the right to deny me entry to a gleaning trip, may require me to leave any gleaning trip, or may remove me from the registration list if I do not agree to and/or comply with this COVID protocol. Staff reserves the right to ask any relevant questions regarding health and hygiene that he/she considers may pose a safety risk while on a gleaning trip.
  • Should any of my answers change between now and the gleaning trip I am registering for, I agree to communicate this to the trip leader, cancel my registration, and refrain from engaging in gleaning activities until cleared by an HHRI staff member.
  • After volunteering, let us know immediately if:
    • You are diagnosed with COVID-19;
    • You begin experiencing COVID-19 symptoms; or
    • You learn later that you were exposed to COVID-19 the week before volunteering.

In times of crisis, we each have to evaluate our ability to respond and what that might look like. We know this season  will be different for all of us. Please know, if you cannot or choose not to  volunteer at this time, we understand and still want to stay connected. Reach out, drop us a note and let us know how you’re doing!
